Bauchi Governor Scraps Ministry of Local Government, Appoints New Commissioners
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed has announced the dissolution of the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, citing the Supreme Court’s recent ruling on local government autonomy as the driving force behind the move.
The announcement was made during the swearing-in ceremony of three newly appointed commissioners and a Chief Security Advisor in Bauchi.
Governor Mohammed emphasised the need to realign the state’s governance structure for optimal performance, which also led to the removal of the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adamu Umar.
He clarified that the decision was not punitive but part of a larger plan to refresh the administration with new perspectives.
“We must rejuvenate the cabinet to ensure we achieve our objectives. It’s about bringing fresh minds with innovative ideas to move Bauchi forward,” Mohammed stated.
He added that Dr. Umar would be reassigned to a more suitable role within the government in the near future.
The newly appointed commissioners are Zainab Baba Takko for Women Affairs, Dr. Sani Mohammed for Health, and Mohammed AbdulKadir for Commerce and Industry, and Ahmed Abdulrahman has also been appointed as the Chief Security Adviser.
Speaking on behalf of the appointees, Zainab Baba Takko expressed gratitude to the governor, pledging their commitment to elevate their respective ministries and drive development across the state.
Governor Mohammed urged the new officials to swiftly familiarise themselves with their duties, stressing the importance of keeping pace with the administration’s goals and speed.
