Bauchi govt to sponsor 30,000 students for 2022 WAEC, NECO examinations
The Bauchi State government says it will sponsor no fewer than 30,000 secondary school students for the 2022 WAEC and NECO examinations.
Dr Aliyu Tilde, the state Commissioner for Education, made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi on Thursday.
He said the potential candidates for the examinations would write a mock qualifying examination as a precondition for the sponsorship.
Tilde said that each of the participating candidates must record at least five credit passes in the mock test, in subjects including English and Mathematics.
The commissioner noted that the government had, in the last two years, sponsored 28,000 indigent candidates for the public examinations.
He said intensive teaching and learning were presently ongoing in SS 3 classes across existing senior secondary schools preparatory to the commencement of the examinations.
According to him, the state government in collaboration with the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE) has closed down 45 illegal NCE awarding institutions.
He said the schools were operating illegally and would be sanctioned to serve as a deterrent to others.
