Betara Hailed For Stepping Down From Speakership Race, Supporting Abbas
People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy Chairman of Kumbiya-Kumbiya ward of Gombe State Auwal Usman Goni has saluted Honourable Mukthar Betara for withdrawing from the race for speaker of the 10th house of representatives and supported Tajudden Abbas ‘for the interest of the unity of the country’.
Goni made the applause yesterday in an interview with newsmen where he said the statesmanship exhibited by Betara paved way for rancour free election of the speaker adding that politicians should always make sacrifices for peace, harmony and unity of the nation.
“The sacrifice made by Honourable Betara shows that he has Nigeria at heart and he believes that Nigeria’s sustainability is above his personal ambition.
“Although I am a member of the PDP but I am an ardent supporter of Honourable Mukhtar Betara being from the north east. But I have supported his decision to step out of the race because the north east already has the vice president and number two in government.
“But with the emergence of Akpabio and Abbas as senate president and speaker of the house of representatives respectively, I think there is fairness and balance in the government now. This might not have been possible without the sacrifice and sportsmanship exhibited by Honourable Mukhtar Betara”. He opined.
While congratulating Abbas on the victory, the PDP stalwart advised the new speaker to work together with Betara for successful legislation and leadership.
