The Borno State Flood Relief Committee (BFRC) has engaged 50 National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) members in the damaged property verification exercise.
According to the committee, the corps members are to familiarise themselves with the verification procedures to ensure success.
Declaring the training session open Friday in Maiduguri, the committee chairman, Baba Bukar Gujbawu, emphasised the importance of commitment and dedication to the task of overcoming the flood disasters.
His words: “We’re determined to conduct thorough and professional work as mandated by Governor Babagana Zulum, within the established timeframe of a month.
“I want to urge you to take this assignment very seriously,” noting that the corps members are selected based on merit.
“What we want is credible work,” warning that anything short of that will not be tolerated.
The co-chairman of the committee, Prof. Ibrahim Umara, described the verification exercise as both humanitarian and challenging in overcoming the flood disasters.
He advised the trainees to refuse any form of gratification, assuring them that adequate security measures are in place for their safety.
Umara noted that the committee still has more than 15 wards to cover, underscoring the necessity of engaging additional personnel to expedite the process while maintaining high standards.
He said that the Maiduguri metropolis has over a dozen wards, including Gamboru, Bulabulin, Gwange 2 and 3, as well as Fori, Galtimari, Old Maiduguri, and other flood-affected areas.
The corps members also sought clarification on tenants/landlords and multiple households affected in the recent floods, including the extent of damages to houses and other property.
