Borno professionals, others present N50m to Zulum for APC nomination

Over 170 professionals, clubs and associations have presented a N50 million cheque to Governor Babagana Zulum to procure the All Progressive Congress (APC) nomination to re-contest the governorship elections in 2023.
The associations and clubs comprise traders, artisans, civil servants and various professionals in the health, education and transportation sectors of the economy.

Presenting the cheques, yesterday (Wednesday) at the Government House, Maiduguri, Spokesman of the professionals bodies, Awaji Bukar disclosed: “We’ve voluntarily contributed various widows’ mites to raise N50 million being presented to our Governor to re-contest next year’s governorship.”

Besides, he added: “Our contributions are a mark of appreciation for his giant strides and unprecedented achievements recorded in various sectors of the economy in the last three years.
He noted that this is the only way to sustain the state’s development processes for Governor to re-contest the governorship election in 2023.
He said that the professionals and clubs are to purchase the expression of interest and nomination forms with the raised funds.
Bukar, therefore, called on the people to donate generously towards the cause.
Responding, Zulum who presented a symbolic Sterling Bank cheque of N50 million and thanked the people for the confidence reposed in him to lead.
He said: “I pledged to lead the people, if the opportunities are provided to me to re-contest at the 2023 polls.
“We’ve overcome most of the security challenges, so that people can travel from Maiduguri to Gambouru without military escorts.”
According to him, people can now travel from Maiduguri to Bama and Banki, without any of the security agents’ escorts.
He added that Baga, on shores of Lake Chad, has resumed fishing and farming activities, after retuning IDPs to their ancestral homes.
Zulum noted that by presenting the N50 million cheques; he has answered their call, stating that he will instruct the party chairman to facilitate the purchase of forms.
Zulum is the first incumbent Governor in the state to have his party nomination form purchased by members of the public.
