Buhari subdued Boko Haram, fulfils promise made in inaugural speech – Buratai
The former Chief of Army staff Tukir Buratai says President Muhammadu Buhari subdued Boko-Haram as promised n 2015 during his inaugural speech.
Buratai emphasised the success of the military in the fight against Boko-Haram in the Borno state and the North East noting that the present administration has left no stone unturned in the fight against insurgency.

“It is expedient to mention here that internally displaced persons taking refuge in various camps in the city of Maiduguri have now been moved back to their home towns: Konduga, Bama, Gwoza, Monguno, Kukawa and Dikwa, just to name a few.
“Over 20,000 hostages were rescued through various commando-style raids and rescue missions by the Army in recent times. The Nigerian Army and the Nigerian Airforce under Operation LAFIYA DOLE now Operation HADIN KAI were also able to identify, monitor, and eliminate top Boko Haram commanders with the support of President Buhari.
“I need not say it hear that over 100,000 insurgents have surrendered to the government, and many more are coming out.
While reacting to the notion that the military is not doing enough to secure the country, the former COAS said the military has worked assiduously which helped in reclaiming all the local government area councils that were under the control of Boko-Haram and the displaced persons have returned to their homes.
He said, “It is only those who don’t see anything good in the country that doesn’t appreciate the effort of the government in terms of dealing with insecurity across the country.
“What the Nigerian military confronted and subdued is an insurgency with international collaboration and support. It’s what Mali is facing that despite the presence of Operation BARKHANE of the French Army and the United Nations peacekeeping, Mali couldn’t cope. At the moment, the Russians have been summoned to come and assist Mali to tackle the jihadists. But the Nigerian military has subdued the insurgents, terrorists and jihadists; the northeast region is now calm and very stable.”
Buratai urged the military not to be partisan and adhere strictly to their constitutional role and remain impartial as the 2023 election approaches.
On APC chances at the poll, Buratai urged Nigerians to vote for APC and its Presidential candidate Bola Tinubu.
“I have ideas and ideals that the APC can safeguard. I also believe that the party means well for Nigeria, and also stands a better chance of winning the presidential elections. We are working around the clock to ensure that Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu wins the election. I would encourage you to vote for your preferred choice, but if you are interested in my opinion, I would say, vote for the APC” Buratai said.
