Buni clinches NUJ awards of excellence in Yobe

Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni has clinched the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) award of excellence.
The award is in recognition of Buni’s support to media practitioners in the state.
While receiving the award, on Thursday, at the banquet hall, Damaturu, the Governor described it as the first of its kind.
He, therefore, urged the journalists to improve on reporting the completed and ongoing projects in the 17 local Councils.
Besides, he added: “The media promotes democracy and good governance to meet people’s yearnings and aspirations,” noting that democracy cannot work with the media that ensures transparency and accountability to the people.

“The media is a mechanism of various feedback on the implementation and sustenance of government projects and programme,” he said.
He called on journalists to continue keep the electorate informed about the deliveries of the dividends of democracy.
According to him, the dividends of democracy in the various sectors of the economy should have a positive impact on people’s lives.
To ensure Civil Service performance, he said: “We’ll continue to train and retrain the workers to achieve optimal performance in service delivery to the people.”
He urged the journalists to adhere to the ethics of their profession by disseminating credible information to the public, as he will continue to provide a conducive environment for them.
Buni also extended the transmission time for the Yobe State Broadcasting Corporation (YBC) from 8pm to 10pm.
The Commissioner for Information, represented by the Director of Information Services, Hajiya Husna Ibrahim, assured the Governor of bridging the gap between the state government and the people.
According to him, the dissemination of information is on government policies and programmes at the grassroots.
