Buni directs MDAs to support EU livelihood projects for households

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has directed Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to support EU livelihood projects for 95, 000 households.
According to him, the MDAs’ support was to complement and raise the livelihoods of IDP returnees into liberated communities.

Buni, who was represented by the Deputy Governor, Idi Gubana gave the directives yesterday (Thursday) while receiving Ndubisi Anyanwu, the Country Director of Mercy Corps at the Government House, Damaturu.
He said that the IDPs’ relocation exercise has improved their living conditions; despite the 12-year Boko Haram insurgency that claimed many lives and property.
Speaking on the importance of EU support, Anyanwu said: “We’re raising the livelihoods of the vulnerable population with our resilience and Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) activities.”
He said that the collaboration in the livelihood support projects, be sustained in the insurgency affected communities.
While commending the political will of the government, he said: “We attribute the success story of the EU and development partners to the leadership of the Buni administration returning IDPs to their ancestral homes.”

Besides, he added that there is gradual return of peace and normalcy for the IDP returnees to pick up their lives.
He therefore urged that there should be an overall ownership of the completed projects, including that of humanitarian and development partners.
