Buni empowers 500 women with deep freezers, others to boost SMEs

Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni. has empowered 500 women with deep freezers to boost their small and medium scale Enterprises (SMEs) across the state.
According to him, the beneficiaries are from the insurgency affected Local Government Area.
Flagging off the distribution of empowerment materials on Wednesday in Damaturu, the Governor disclosed: “Besides the empowerment of women, the Ministry of Wealth, Empowerment and Employment Generation (MWEEG), has signed a contract with Bakura Jibrin firm to procure 100 motorcycles and 80 Jega tricycles for distribution to youths and farmers.”
He noted that the distribution of motorcycles and tricycles will boost youths’ livelihoods and food security in the insurgency affected communities in the state.
Additionally, Buni also announced a N96 million cash support to 4, 800 households in cushioning economic hardships over the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government.
He said each of the beneficiaries will collect N20,000 for their daily stipends, lamenting that market prices of essential commodities have increased by over 200 percent.
On the vulnerable unemployed youths and women, Buni stated that as the Ministry is working round the clock for more distribution of empowerment packages in cash and kind to “improve and sustain” their livelihoods.
The governor, however, warned the women against selling the distributed empowerment materials for personal profits.
Aishatu Isa, a mother of six children, thanked the governor for his visionary and pragmatic leadership in overcoming the challenges of unemployment and poverty among the youths and women.
