Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State has flagged off maternal, antenatal care, and immunisation of children to ensure healthcare delivery services in the state.
According to him, the week-long event in the 356 health facilities will render nine essential interventions on nutrition, vitamin A supplements, and birth registration.
Buni, represented by the Commissioner of Health and Human Services, Dr. Mohammed Lawan Gana, disclosed: “Today’s second round of the 2024 Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week was to sustain routine immunisation against the seven-killer child diseases, including cholera, measles, and polio.”
He said the other healthcare interventions to ensure delivery services included HIV testing and counselling, promotion of household hygiene practices, and micronutrient supplements for lactating mothers and children.
Additionally, he noted that the second week will provide an opportunity for the parents to raise awareness on the importance of routine immunisation against waterborne and airborne diseases in communities.
Besides immunisation, he said that the state government has targeted 90 percent of the population in the state.
Executive Secretary of the State Primary Healthcare Management Board (YPHMB), Dr. Babagana Machina, urged health workers to reach all nooks and crannies of the state with the essential healthcare services, including hard-to-reach areas.
