Buni pardons 115 prison inmates in Yobe

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state, has pardoned 115 inmates identified by the sub-inaugural committee on the prerogative of mercy in the state.
According to him, the pardoning of the prison inmates, is line with the powers conferred on him by section 212 of the 1999 Constitution.
Presenting the report, over the weekend, (Friday), in Damaturu, the former Attorney General, who doubles as the Seniour Special Assistant on Legal Matters, Sale Samanja, disclosed: “All the freed inmates, are happy with the Governor’s benevolence,” pledging that they are to correct their past mistakes.

While receiving the report, Buni described it as the State government support to decongest the Correctional Service (CoS) centres across the state
“This will facilitate inmates’ rehabilitation,” he said, adding that wealthy individuals are to assist the inmates in offsetting their minor fines while in jails.
According to him, the freed inmates have learnt their lessons and would avoid repeating what put them into jail.
