Buni pardons 30 inmates in Yobe

The Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has granted clemency to 30 prison inmates in the state. According to him, the pardoned inmates were serving their jail terms in five Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) facilities across the country.
Announcing the inmates’ pardoning, on Monday, the State’s Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Saleh Samanja, disclosed, “The State’s Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy visited the correctional facilities in Potiskum, Nguru, and Gashua to assess inmates’ eligibility for clemency.”
He stated that, after thorough deliberations, a list of 30 inmates was submitted to the governor’s approval. The commissioner of justice reiterated that the state government remains committed to improving the welfare of prisoners by training them to acquire various skills under the Buni administration.
According to him, the pardoned inmates are from the correctional facility centres in Potiskum, Nguru, Jos, Kaduna, and Gashua, a border community with Niger. He stated, “Among the pardoned inmates, 14 were released after being unable to pay their respective fines.
