Buni reads riot act to permanent secretaries on abuse of vehicles, other property

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has said that government will not condone ‘wastage and diversion’ of government resources, while delivering various services to the people in the State.
Buni read the riot act on Wednesday in Damaturu, while swearing nine Permanent Secretaries at the Government House banquet hall.
“Henceforth, there would be no conversion of government vehicles and other property for personal use at the expense of government work in service delivery,” he said.

Besides, he added that all communications and movement of files must follow the normal procedures and appropriate channels for proper documentation and implementation.
The Governor warned that; “On no account should government files be released to unauthorised persons.”
He therefore directed the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Garba Bilal to take note and act accordingly to Buni’s directives.
“Permanent Secretaries are be good team players and work harmoniously with their commissioners, directors and other staff in their respective Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs),” he said, stating that they are to collectively achieve the set targets with maximum results in the critical sectors of health, education, housing, agricultures and security.
The Governor also charged the permanent secretaries to inject their knowledge, wisdom and skills to promote good governance, adding that they should groom their subordinates for effective service delivery to the people.
Buni, therefore, noted; “You’re expected to add value from your wealth of experience in the civil service to render services in the various sectors of the economy.”
He further disclosed that over 2,600 graduates, diploma and National Certificate in Education (NCE) holders were recently employed to fill vacancies to enhance productivity of workers in MDAs.
Continuing, he also charged the Head of Service (HoS), Alhaji Garba Bilal and the nine sworn in permanent secretaries to promote schedules of workers’ responsibilities to justify their monthly wage bills of payments by government.
Noting that; “Our regular payments of workers’ salaries, pension and other due allowances, will give them a sense of belonging in the state.
Besides, he added that it could check cases of indolence and absenteeism, instead of promoting workers’ efficiency and productivity in the civil services.
The Governor reiterated the State government’s commitment to due process, accountability and transparency in conducting business of governance in the various sectors.
Reiterating that all government vehicles should be strictly used for government assignments.
He directed the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Baba Wali, Head of Service (HoS), Bilal and permanent secretaries to comply with his directives on abuse of government vehicles and other property in their custodies.
According to him, the measures are to improve the living conditions of people that elected him into office for the second term.
Buni, therefore, enjoined all the permanent secretaries to be good team players and to work harmoniously with their commissioners, directors and other staff in their respective MDAs.
