Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has ordered the State’s Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to assess the extent of damages in the Damaturu market fire incident on Tuesday.
According to him, the Fire Service Department (FSD) is to be henceforth on standby during the harmattan dry season.
The Director General, Media and Press Affairs to the governor, Mamman Mohammed, in a statement yesterday (Tuesday) in Damaturu, disclosed: “Buni expressed shock and sadness over today’s early morning fire outbreak at the Bayan Tasha Damaturu market.”
The governor described the fire incident as sad and most unfortunate at this ill-timed moment of economic hardships in the country.
Buni, therefore, ordered the Director General of SEMA, Dr. Mohammed Goje, to assess the extent of damages to shops, market stalls, and other property,
including the number of shops, traders, and estimated value of losses to traders.
He also consoled the fire victims, saying, “As Muslim faithfuls, nothing happens to any believer, except with the knowledge of our creator, the God.”
Buni, therefore, urged the traders and residents to take proactive measures against fire outbreaks, particularly during the cold harmattan season of every year.
He also prayed to God against future occurrences of infernos in the state.
