Buni supports NIS to fight trans-border crimes, terrorism

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state will continue to support the Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) in fighting trans-border crimes and terrorism in the state.
According to him, the support to NIS and other security operatives was to enhance coordinated border patrols against trans-border crimes.

Buni made the pledges on. Thursday when the zone C, Assistant Controller General (ACG) of Immigration, Sunday James paid a courtesy visit to the Governor at Government House, Damaturu.
He lamented that six of the 17 local councils are porous with Niger Republic, including the Kumadugu/Yobe River Basins,
“The State government is committed to building sustainable peace in securing the border areas of Geidam, Yusufari, Yunusari, Machina and Nguru,” he said.
The Governor noted that the fight against trans-border crimes and terrorism was to ensure sustainable peace and security of people’s lives,
He, therefore, commended the military and other security agencies for their commitment and resilience in in fighting terrorisms in the Northeast.
Buni also urged the agencies to work in synergy by adopting joint patrol exercises to check the infiltration of suspected criminals into the border-states.
“You should liaise with traditional and community leaders in identify areas and suspects involved in crimes and terrorism,” he charged.
The Immigration controller, commended Buni for supporting the security agencies in the ongoing counter-terrorism operations.
Besides, he added: “Your Excellency, l am impressed with the support rendered by your government. This has translated into restoring peace and security in the state.
“The success recorded in the war against the insurgency and crime generally is only possible through your support.”
