Buni tasks commissioners on prudence, service delivery in Yobe

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has tasked commissioners on due process, prudence and transparency in service deliveries from the critical sectors of the economy.
According to him, the sectors are in health, education, infrastructure, agriculture and the environment in which climate change should be mitigated.
Buni gave the tasks, at the weekend (Saturday), in Damaturu, while swearing in 20 commissioners with their portfolios in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

“The era of carrying files and other forms of communication without complying with normal procedure and due process is over,” he said.
Besides, he insisted that all files must go through the approved channels for proper documentation, before executing the approved projects and other programmes to improve people’s living conditions.
He, therefore, warned the commissioners that no government files and other classified documents be released to unauthorized persons.
While congratulating them, he noted: “l am sure you are conscious of the task that awaits you.
“As members of the State Executive Council (SEC), we shall be taking critical decisions for and on behalf of our people,” stating that this will enable the Council to be committed in implementing people-oriented policies and programmes to accelerate the development and growth of the state.
Buni noted that the sworn in commissioners secured the people’s mandate for a second term in office, at the February 25, 2023 governorship election.
On their confirmations by the Assembly, he said: “This demonstrates the good working relationship between the executive and legislative arms of government,” the commissioners’ confirmation is in the interest of both the State and its people.
He, however, warned them against disloyalty, indolence, selfishness and low service delivery to the people they are going to serve.
Continued; “It’s a task that must be achieved for posterity to judge us positively,” stating that they are to handle all official matters according to the oath of allegiance and oath of secrecy they have already sworn.
He further warned that government would not condone acts of sabotage, diversion and waste of the scarce resources in their trust.
Buni charged them to regularly inspect projects and provide him with progress of work to justify value for money spent.
A veteran journalist and former commissioner of Wealth Creation, Empowerment and Employment Generation (WCEG), Abdullahi Bego, has been retained by Buni to head the Information Ministry.
The other 19 commissioners include Ali Mustapha Goniri for Ministry of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Ya Jalo Badama (Women Affairs); Aji Yerima Bularafa (WCEG), Musa Mustapha (Transport and Energy), Ahmed Buba Abba Kyari (Housing), Usman Ahmed (Water Resources), Mohammed Abatcha Gaidam (Finance) Kaigama Umar Yunusari (Commerce), Ibrahim Adamu Jajere (Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs), Yusuf Umar Potiskum (Religious Affairs), Barr. Saleh Samanja (Justice) and Prof. Mohammed Bello Kawuwa (Higher Education).
