Buni tasks GGW DG to halt desertification in the North

Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe state has tasked the Director-General of the Great Green Wall (GGW) programme, Dr Yusuf Bukar to halt desertification.
According to him, desert encroachment has engulfed Geidam, Bursari, Nguru, Karasuwa, Machina, Yunusari, Tarmuwa, Gashua and Yusufari councils in the north part of Yobe.
Buni gave the task, yesterday (Sunday) when Dr Bukar paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House, Damaturu.
Congratulating Bukar on his new appointment, Buni urged him to be dedicated to duty and remain a good ambassador to the state.
Responding, he assured the Governor that he will put his best into the implementation of the GGW project to halt the further spread of desertification in the North.

According to him, the GGW involves promoting water harvesting techniques and greenery protection to improve indigenous land use techniques.
He said the project is implemented in eight other states Jigawa, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, Sokoto and Niger.
He, therefore, applauded Buni for the support and assured him that he will justify his new appointment.
