Buratai sparks patriotism in youths through poetic rendition at Gombe Literary Festival

Nigeria’s former Chief of Army Staff and former envoy to the Republic of Benin, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusuf Buratai Rtd on Wednesday, captivated the audience at the annual Gombe Day of Literature/3rd North East Festival of Literature, Culture, and Creativity with a heartfelt poem he wrote in his book titled, “The Legend of Buratai Vol.2.”
The poem, penned by the General himself during his tenure in 2018, delves into the intricacies of terrorism and urges individuals to embrace patriotism instead.

The event, organized by the Halima Factor Community Initiative, a non-governmental organization, took place today, on the 15th of November 2023, within the confines of Gombe State University’s new multi-purpose hall.
Ambassador Buratai, who equally served as the Special Guest of Honour, delivered a commanding recitation of his poem, which emerged as a profound outcome of his contemplation on the motives and actions of terrorists. Through his words, he implored listeners to embrace their patriotic spirit and shun the path of terrorism.
The event not only showcased General Buratai’s literary prowess but also served as a platform to foster a deeper understanding of the complexities surrounding terrorism. By merging art and intellectual discourse, the Gombe Literary Festival successfully inspired individuals to reflect upon the importance of national unity and security.
General Buratai’s poetry reading undoubtedly left a lasting impact on all those present, reinforcing the message that true patriotism is the key to building a prosperous and peaceful nation.
General Buratai, urged them to embrace the virtues of trustworthiness and humility. He passionately conveyed that these two qualities hold the power to propel young individuals towards greatness. Drawing from the teachings found in various Holy books, he expounded on the significance of humility and its intrinsic connection to positions of leadership, emphasizing that true leaders are driven by a genuine desire to serve.
“The virtue of humility is not only defined but also celebrated in all the sacred texts,” General Buratai expressed with conviction. “Positions of leadership are not meant for personal gain, but rather for selfless service to others. Trustworthiness, on the other hand, signifies your reliability, loyalty, and ability to be relied upon,” he added, highlighting the indispensable role trust plays in building lasting relationships.
Speaking further, General Buratai commended Mrs. Halima Usman, the visionary behind the Halima Factor Community Initiative. He expressed his heartfelt appreciation for her exceptional efforts and encouraged her to persevere in her noble endeavors, recognizing the positive impact she has made.
General Buratai’s stirring speech resonated deeply with the attendees, fostering a sense of introspection and motivating them to cultivate trustworthiness and humility within themselves. By instilling these values, the students are equipped with the tools necessary to embark on a journey of personal growth, success, and meaningful contributions to society.
Distinguished personalities in attendance included Dr. Manasseh Jatau, the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Mrs. Nominated Maiguwa MFR, Chairman of the Gombe State Teacher’s Service Commission, Alhaji Ibrahim Isa, the esteemed Chiroman Nguru, as well as senior military and para-military officers.
The event, which commenced on the 12th of November 2023 and is set to continue until the 16th of November 2023, has attracted participants from all six states within the North-East region. As students from diverse backgrounds come together, the occasion serves as a melting pot of ideas, experiences, and aspirations.
