Bwari Emirate Council Honors International Guests with Traditional Titles, Celebrates Nigerian Culture

Drums rolled out to a vibrant display of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage as the Bwari Emirate Council in the Federal Capital Territory welcomed some distinguished visitors.
The ceremony, held at the instance of former Chief of Army Staff and former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, saw Brigadier General Mike Mukokomani of Botswana conferred with the prestigious traditional title of the Giri of Bwari, while Mrs. Bint Mohamed Abin Jizani of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was also honored with the title Mma Balo Buhari, meaning the Mother of Buhari.
General Buratai, who was also affirmed and turbaned as the Birman Bwari, emphasized the importance of unity and cultural exchange. He noted that Nigerians have a well-established tradition of honoring their guests, welcoming them, and respecting them. He expressed pride in seeing people from outside Nigeria visiting despite the country’s challenges.
General Buratai continued, “We will not appreciate ourselves until we see people really appreciating who we are and what we are doing.” He welcomed development and thanked His Royal Highness, the Emir of Bwari, Dr. Auwal Musa Muhammad Ijakoro. He reiterated his belief in the unity of Nigeria, emphasizing the need for coordination, understanding, cooperation, and mutual support.
In his remarks, the Emir of Bwari, Dr Auwal Mohammed Ijakoro the Second expressed delight in the personality of General Buratai. He that God who saw him through to retirement from the Army will always be there to protect and lead him to greater heights.
Brigadier General Mike Mukokomani of Botswana expressed his gratitude to the Buhari Emirate Council, highlighting the need to maintain African brotherhood. He praised the rich cultural heritage and rich people of Nigeria, thanking them for the kind heart shown to the visitors. He also thanked them for the titles bestowed upon them, noting that he would inform his people back home that he is now the Giri of Bwari.
Other guests in attendance echoed General Mukokomani’s sentiment, stressing the significance of preserving Nigeria’s cultural heritage. They praised General Buratai for hosting the event, which featured a traditional dober and dances from various ethnic groups. The occasion showcased the power of cultural exchange and unity in fostering peaceful coexistence and development.
In attendance were important dignitaries including Dr Ahmed Manzo, Lieutenant General Lamidi Adeosun, Major General Abdulmalik Bulama Biu, Hon Jafaru Ribadu, The Ciroma of Nguru, and a host of others.
