CAS Joins African Air Chiefs in Tunis in a Summit to Enhance Air Force Capabilities, Collaboration
The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, is currently engaged in the Annual African Air Chiefs Symposium (AACS) in Tunis, Tunisia, taking place from February 26 to March 1, 2024. This significant gathering, orchestrated by the Association of African Air Force (AAAF) with sponsorship from the United States Air Force for Europe and Air Force Africa, serves as a pivotal platform for multinational security cooperation.
The primary objective of the symposium is to fortify the bonds among African air chiefs and their respective air forces while addressing the key challenges they encounter. Through constructive dialogue and the sharing of best practices, participating nations aim to enhance their capacities and bolster their partner networks. Moreover, strategic airlift discussions and deliberations on critical issues such as air mobility and women, peace, and security are on the agenda for this year’s event, themed “Pan-African Education and Training Opportunities.”

The symposium endeavours to cultivate more effective military relationships, foster networking opportunities, and encourage collaboration among the diverse array of nations in attendance. By bringing together defense decision-makers from Africa and beyond, the forum facilitates brainstorming sessions on the latest developments in air operations, strategies, and cutting-edge technologies. In essence, the symposium represents a unique opportunity for the African and international defense communities to converge, exchange knowledge, and chart a course for the future of air force capabilities and collaboration.
The symposium aligns with one of the key enablers of Air Marshal Abubakar’s Command Philosophy that prioritizes Research and Development while leveraging cutting-edge technology, strategic partnerships and lessons learnt. It also affords the CAS an opportunity to share ideas as well as interrogate new strategies that may tally with NAF’s ongoing counterinsurgency and counterterrorism efforts in a joint operating environment. About 40 African Air Force Chiefs are participating in this year’s AACS.
