CDS Salutes NDA Alumni, Urges Ongoing National Support
Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Gen. Christopher Musa, has applauded the dedication and service of retired officers from the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) 17th Regular Course and Short Service Course 9, urging them to continue supporting national security efforts.
Speaking at the Golden Jubilee Dinner of the alumni in Abuja on Saturday, Gen. Musa described the 50th anniversary as a celebration of sacrifice, resilience, and contributions of the gallant officers to the Nigerian Armed Forces and national development.
“Fifty years ago, young men took an oath to serve with courage, discipline, and professionalism. Today, we honour their legacy,” he said. “These officers helped shape the military and left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s security architecture.”
He highlighted their roles in military leadership, public service, politics, and business, describing their success as a reflection of the values instilled by the NDA. The CDS also paid tribute to fallen colleagues who made the ultimate sacrifice, noting their bravery and patriotism would never be forgotten.
Gen. Musa emphasized the importance of veteran input in addressing modern threats such as terrorism and cyber warfare, stressing the need for continued mentoring and engagement from retired officers. He reaffirmed the military’s commitment to achieving President Bola Tinubu’s mandate of restoring peace and stability across the country.
Also speaking at the event, Chairman of the North-East Development Commission and former NDA Commandant, Retired Maj.-Gen. Paul Tarfa, lauded the 17RC as one of the academy’s best. He congratulated the course members on their successful military careers and contributions to national growth.
Course President, Retired Maj.-Gen. Abubakar Atofarati, highlighted the course’s achievements, noting it produced top military leaders including former Chief of Defence Staff, Adm. Ola-Saad Ibrahim, and former Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Abdulrahman Dambazau. He added that several members went on to serve as senators and ambassadors.
He said the alumni association was established to support the welfare of members, now senior citizens. Out of 129 officers trained, 49 have passed on, he noted, thanking God for the opportunity to celebrate 50 years of brotherhood and service.
