As Nigeria marked the 2024 World Civil Defence Day alongside 60 other member nations of the International Civil Defence Organisation (ICDO), a coalition of civil society organizations led by STAND UP NIGERIA praised the Nigerian Security And Civil Defence Corps for their unwavering dedication to maintaining peace and security in the nation.
During a press conference held in Abuja on Friday, Comrade Sunday Attah, the National Coordinator of STAND UP NIGERIA, lauded the Corps for their relentless battle against criminal elements, including vandals, economic saboteurs, and oil thieves, through the utilization of cutting-edge technologies, which has resulted in significant progress and garnered widespread approval from the Nigerian populace.
Attah emphasized that the NSCDC has set a remarkable standard in fulfilling its mandate of upholding peace, ensuring public safety, and safeguarding the civilian population from various threats across the country.
“The NSCDC has demonstrated exceptional capacity, dedication, and professionalism in carrying out its responsibilities. The Corps has demonstrated a strong commitment to safeguarding critical national infrastructure. Notably, the NSCDC has played a crucial role in apprehending perpetrators of heinous crimes such as rape, cult activities, and other forms of criminality,” Attah stated.
He urged Nigerians both at home and abroad to rally behind the NSCDC and support their initiatives to bolster the security landscape and preserve the nation’s integrity.
As the World Civil Defence Day celebrations unfolded, the accolades from civil society organizations underscored the vital role played by the NSCDC in ensuring the safety and well-being of Nigerians, reinforcing the importance of collaborative efforts in maintaining peace and security within the country.
According to him, the NSCDC has over the years shown professionalism in the discharge of their duties in the fight against insurgency, banditry.and other criminal elements across the country and believe that they will further improve the security of life and property in the country.
The civil society organizations also use the medium to also congratulate the Commandant General of the Corps, Dr. Abubakar Ahmed Audi on his third year as the man at the helm of affairs.
He said, leadership is about using people and resources to achieve maximum results.
He noted that a leader’s history of successes and failures makes a big difference in his credibility.
“To build trust, a leader must exemplify these qualities: competence, connection and character. People will forgive occasional mistakes based on ability, especially if they can see that you’re still growing as a leader. But they won’t trust someone who has slips in character”.
“Significantly, in the heat of conflict, as a professional, Audi has ensured that the NSCDC has continued to remain apolitical, professional and commendably responsive in the discharge of its constitutional roles”.
“Since Audi’s appointment as Commandant General, the Nigerian Security And Civil Defense Corps has witnessed a lot of reorganization and redeployment in a bid to improve its overall operational responsiveness and professionalism”.
Attah concluded that Audi has substantially dispensed himself as a CG whose footprints are not only indelible, but have dwarfed the accomplishments of all his predecessors put together.
