Chadian Forces solely responsible for major counterterrorism operations in Lake Chad Basin
In a clarifying statement today, the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) corrected previous reports, attributing a significant counterterrorism operation solely to their efforts.
This was contained in a press statement signed and made available to newsmen by the Chief Military Public Information Officer HQ MNJTF, Ndjamena-Chad Lieutenant Colonel Abubakar Abdullahi, in Maiduguri.
“The operation, which saw the elimination of 70 Boko Haram terrorists and the destruction of five camps in the Lake Chad Basin, was exclusively conducted by the Chadian Armed Forces within their territory.
“During a press conference on June 30, 2024, the Chadian military officially announced their successful operation against the terrorist group.
The MNJTF expressed regret over any confusion caused by earlier reports, emphasising the need for accurate attribution of military achievements.
“We apologise for any confusion caused by the previous press release,” stated a spokesperson for the MNJTF.
“The Chadian Armed Forces deserve full credit for their bravery and effectiveness in combating terrorism within their borders.”
The MNJTF reaffirmed its commitment to providing clear and precise information in the future, ensuring accurate reporting of military operations and their outcomes in the Lake Chad Basin region.
