Cholera outbreak kills 17 in Ebonyi

Following an outbreak of cholera at the Akahufu and Ochokwu communities, both in the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, seventeen (17) people have been confirmed dead.
When Hon. Chinedu Ogah, the member representing the Ezza South and Ikwo Federal Constituency, visited the area last Sunday with some medications he had acquired in collaboration with the Ananda Marga Universal Relief Team, AMURT in the State, he made this statement.
Eleven (11) people died at Akahufu, according to the lawmaker represented by Dr. Chukwu Okwudili of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, while six (6) people died in the community of Ochokwu.

In order to stop further deaths, he urged the State Government to assist the affected communities.
Dr. Daniel Umezuruike, the Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health, was contacted and spoke with newsmen on the phone. He said he was in a meeting and would get back to them as soon as he was finished.
