Commander inaugurates special court-martial to try 29 officers, soldiers

The Theatre Commander, Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) has inaugurated a Special Court-Martial (SCM) to try 29 suspected officers and soldiers in the Northeast.
According to him, the President of SCM is Brig-Gen. Hamza Gambo.
The alleged offences were committed during the counter-terrorism operations in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe states.
Unveiling the commencement of martial trials, yesterday (Wednesday), at the Maimalari Cantonment, Maiduguri, Musa, disclosed that out of the 227 cases, 107 are pending, while 120 were disposed of by the two General Court Martials (GCMs) and a special court-martial.
In a breakdown of concluded court cases, 30 officers and soldiers were imprisoned, and 25 officers and soldiers, were also reduced in their ranks and seniorities in the military.
Besides, he added that 10 officers and soldiers were discharged and acquitted along with the struck off of 14 cases.
“There are 107 cases recommended for summary trials by the Theatre Command Court Martials,” he said.
He called on the Court Martial President to ensure justice for the 29 suspects and the court trying them.
The Theatre Legal Adviser, Squadron Leader, Audu Satomi disclosed the trials of the officers and soldiers will immediately commence with the inauguration court-martial.
