Commission trains journalists, CSOs in non-kinetic terrorism fight in Northeast
The North East Development Commission (NEDC), in partnership with Ranlal Global Services (RGLS), has trained journalists and the civil society organisations (CSOs) on non-kinetic approaches to fighting terrorism in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states.
According to the commission, the three-day training was designed to empower them with the relevant knowledge of the peacebuilding process in the insurgency-affected Northeast.
Declaring the training session on Tuesday in Maiduguri, the Commission’s Managing Director, Mohammed Alkali, disclosed that the training workshop will strengthen the roles of the media and CSOs to promote an “accountability and sustainable” development process in the region.
Alkali, represented by NEDC’s Head of Resettlement and Early Recovery, Mohammed Sani Umar, said: “Journalists and members of the CSOs are dynamic in shaping the narratives with amplified voices to bridge gaps of understanding the recovery process.
Additionally, he said the training is designed to equip you with advanced tools, strategies, and the ethical insights to navigate the evolving media landscape.
He noted that the acquired training skills will address the unique challenges of reporting in the three insurgency-affected states.
Besides the acquired reporting skills, he said, “The roles of journalists are indispensable not just in their various reports, but in telling the truth that inspires action, hope, and resilience in the people.
Umar noted that the commission aimed to harness this potential to enhance professionalism and the impact of the recovery process.
