The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has said that conflict and economic hardships fuel the violations of human rights in Yobe.
According to the commission, the rising awareness of human rights violations has led many people to seek redress in courts.
NHRC State Coordinator Labaran Babangida raised the alarm yesterday to mark International Human Rights Day in Damaturu.
“Currently, we have recorded 265 cases of human rights violations in the state.”
He stated that the global economic hardships and conflicts will continue to violate people’s fundamental human rights.
According to him, violations of human rights in Borno, Adamawa, and Yobe states had been fuelled by Boko Haram insurgency.
The Programme Officer, Community Mobilisation of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Kalu Okey, said conflicts have contributed to rights violations.
He noted that incessant conflicts led to national laws being ignored with the shrinking of civic space.
Okay, therefore, urged the federal government to stand and fight for the rights of people.
