Counter-Insurgency Update: Nigerian Military Eliminates 118 Terrorists, Arrests 97, Recovers 10 Vehicles and 33 Motorcycles

The Nigerian Armed Forces have recorded significant successes in their ongoing operations against terrorist groups across the country. According to a press release issued on October 4, 2024, troops have eliminated 118 terrorist commanders and combatants, and arrested 97 persons in the past week alone.
The Armed Forces have also made notable recoveries, including 87 assorted weapons and 2,244 assorted ammunition. Additionally, 96 kidnapped hostages were rescued, and 18 perpetrators of oil theft were arrested. In the South-South region, troops prevented oil theft worth N793,257,250.
The recovered items include one PKT gun, one PKM, one RPG, one auto pistol, 43 AK47 rifles, 14 fabricated rifles, 14 dane guns, and five pump action guns. Other items recovered are six AK47 magazines, three boefeng radios, 1,715 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, 505 rounds of 7.62mm NATO, eight rounds of 9mm ammo, 14 live cartridges, and 89 empty cases of 7.62mm ammo.
Furthermore, troops recovered 10 vehicles, 33 motorcycles, 50 mobile phones, and N778,560 in cash. In the Niger Delta area, troops discovered and destroyed four dugout pits, 48 boats, three speedboats, 156 drums, and 34 storage tanks.
Other items recovered in the Niger Delta region include 28 cooking ovens, eight vehicles, one motorcycle, one tricycle, and 44 illegal refining sites. Troops also recovered 602,200 liters of stolen crude oil, 64,900 liters of illegally refined AGO, and 12,690 liters of PMS.
The Nigerian Armed Forces remain committed to defending the country and protecting its citizens from insecurity. With these successes, the troops are gaining ground in the war against terrorism.
Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations, stated that the Armed Forces would continue to innovate and develop new strategies to defend the country and protect citizens from perpetrators of insecurity.
