Customs Zone D Seizes Contraband Worth N20.3 Million in Bauchi
The Nigeria Customs Service Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone D, Bauchi, has seized contraband items valued at N20,330,225 in a major anti-smuggling operation between Sept. 6 and Oct. 8, 2024.
Comptroller Aliyu Abubakar, speaking at a news conference on Wednesday, hailed the operation as a significant achievement in the fight against smuggling. The seized items include 16,635 liters of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) packed in 628 jerry cans and four drums, along with six sacks of fresh donkey skin containing 78 pieces each.
Abubakar credited the success to strong intelligence gathering and collaboration with other customs units, such as the Customs Intelligence Unit (CIU) and the Customs Police. He reaffirmed the unit’s dedication to enforcing customs laws and curbing smuggling activities across the nine states under its jurisdiction, which include Adamawa, Taraba, Bauchi, Gombe, Borno, Yobe, Plateau, Benue, and Nasarawa.
He also appealed to patriotic Nigerians to provide credible information to help combat smuggling, which poses a serious threat to the nation’s economy.
