By Lawrence Bilal Audu
Nigeria’s Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has praised the Nigerian Army for its efforts in the Niger Delta Region, particularly the 6 Division, during his operational visit to Port Harcourt, Rivers State, on October 9, 2024.
The Minister emphasized the importance of the army’s support in increasing oil production to 2.3 million barrels per day. He noted that the current upward trend from 1.4 to 1.7 million barrels per day is encouraging and promising for the economy.
The Defence Minister stressed that Nigeria needs the army’s support to achieve the targeted oil production. He encouraged the troops to sustain their efforts in combating crude oil theft, which will help stabilize the economy for the benefit of all Nigerians.
Abubakar also commended the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 6 Division, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, for prioritizing troops’ welfare and operational exploits. He inaugurated newly constructed official residences for the Commanding Officer and Regimental Sergeant Major, citing these as evidence of the army’s commitment to addressing welfare issues.
Major General Abdussalam briefed the Minister on ongoing operations and highlighted successes in anti-illegal bunkering operations. He reassured Abubakar of the division’s determination to deny oil thieves freedom of action and provide a secure environment for oil companies to operate.
The visit demonstrates the government’s commitment to supporting the military’s efforts in maintaining national security and promoting economic growth.
