Drug Trafficking Threatens Sahel’s Stability – Marwa
Chairman of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa Rtd, has warned that drug trafficking in the Sahel undermines security, economic development, and public health in the region.
Speaking during the 1st Annual International Lecture on insecurity, Marwa, represented by Mr. Chidi Ndukwu, noted the link between drugs and insurgency, with armed groups using drug revenue to fund operations.
He highlighted NDLEA’s success in dismantling drug syndicates, seizing 7,625 tons of drugs, and arresting over 55,000 offenders between 2021 and 2024.
The agency continues to target criminal networks with global partnerships to restore stability in the region.
