The Emir of Tikau, Alhaji Abubakar Muhammed Ibn Grema, has urged the Yobe State government to grant lifetime scholarships to the winners of the recent Qur’an recitation competition held in Gashua.
The Emir made the appeal during a visit by the Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Arabic and Islamic Education Board (AISEB), Amb. Umar Abubakar, to his palace in Sabon Garin Nangere, the emirate’s headquarters. He described the day as significant for promoting Islamic values, pledging to continue supporting religious education.
Amb. Abubakar conveyed the Board’s gratitude to the emirate and presented certificates and awards to the competition winners, Aliyu Mu’azu Abdullahi and Amina Sa’id Haruna, both from Nangere local government area. He praised the Emir for his role in fostering Islamic education and expressed condolences over the recent passing of the Emir’s father, commending his commitment to serving the Qur’an and the community.
The Emir was nominated as an adviser to the Yobe State Arabic and Islamic Education Board, a move Amb. Abubakar said would further support the state’s goals of advancing Tsangaya and Islamiyya education. He also requested prayers for Governor Mai Mala Buni’s administration.
AISEB officials, including the musabaqa committee chairman, Alhaji Lawan Abba Shettima, and the head judge, Malam Algoni Kamsulum, praised the Emirate’s contribution to producing winners and described the champions as valuable assets to Yobe State. Each winner received certificates, a $500,000 cash prize from the Yobe State government, and special gifts from the Tikau Emirate.
