Empowering Military Families: NASEME Diversifies with Agro-Business Training

In a bid to support the home front and promote self-sufficiency within the barracks communities, the Nigerian Army School of Electrical and Mechanical Engineering (NASEME) Auchi, in collaboration with TARO Agro Consulting and IFIERUITY Logistics Services, recently concluded a 5-Day NASEME Barracks Investment Initiative Programme. The theme of the program was “Capacity Development Programme Focused on Selected Agro-Business Enterprises and Entrepreneurial Training.”
The intensive training, which took place at the NASEME Auditorium and other selected areas within NASEME Barracks in Edo State, focused on Fish Farming, Vegetable Farming, Poultry Farming, and Fruit Styling. Participants included officers, soldiers, their families, and members of the host community.

Representing the Corps Commander Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers, Colonel Emmanuel Omoba emphasized the importance of agro-business and commended the initiative of the Commandant NASEME in implementing the Chief of Army Staff’s welfare drive. The program aimed to empower military personnel and their families to become self-reliant and contribute to economic development in Nigeria.
Resource persons from TARO Agro Consulting and IFIERUITY Logistics Services conducted practical and theoretical sessions on various aspects of agro-based businesses, including Fish, Poultry, and Vegetable farming, as well as Fruit Styling and Juice Making.
The 5-day event concluded with a closing ceremony and the presentation of certificates to the participants. Major General Dele Arogundade, the Commandant of NASEME, expressed satisfaction with the program’s success and highlighted its aim to take advantage of the vast land available for farming. He expressed optimism that the Chief of Army Staff would support the school in sustaining the empowerment program.
Colonel Thompson Oshuporu, the Deputy Commandant/Director of Studies, urged participants to utilize the knowledge and skills gained during the program to start and grow their agro-based businesses. He extended gratitude to the resource persons and their teams for their contributions to the success of the project.
The NASEME Barracks Investment Initiative Programme is expected to become an annual event with a positive impact on the socio-economic development of the host community and the nation as a whole.
