Environment Minister Applauds NBMA’s Vital Role in Ensuring National Food Security
The Minister of Environment, Balarabe Abbas Lawal, has underscored the pivotal role of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), in realizing the food security objectives of the Federal Government.
During his visit to the Agency on January 31st, 2024, the Minister commended the NBMA for its outstanding contributions to scientific research and national safeguarding. He further urged the agency to maintain its commitment in order to become a leader in biosafety within the continent.
Hon. Lawal also encouraged the agency to expand its efforts to collaborate with state governments, emphasizing that such partnerships would raise awareness about biosafety and facilitate a seamless nationwide implementation of biosafety protocols.

Additionally, the Minister urged all NBMA staff members to prioritize punctuality, embrace teamwork, and foster collaboration in order to enhance the effectiveness and productivity of their work.
In her remarks, the Director General and CEO of the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA), Dr. Agnes Yemisi Asagbra, underscored the significant impact and benefits of the agency in protecting human health, plants, animals, and the environment.
Dr. Asagbra emphasized that the NBMA has established a robust framework that enables both local and international scientists to engage in modern biotechnology within a comprehensive legal structure.
Furthermore, she reaffirmed the agency’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safe application of modern biotechnology, which plays a crucial role in achieving food security in Nigeria. Dr. Asagbra reiterated the agency’s dedication to this essential mission.
