FG, Borno set committee on self-care health delivery services

The Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) in collaboration with Borno State government, has inaugurated an advocacy network on self-care strategic plan of action.
The 34-member committee is to meet the State’s needs and guided by the global call to action on self-care health delivery services
Inaugurating the committee, at the weekend (Saturday), during the self-care orientation and dissemination meeting in Maiduguri, Borno state, the Commissioner of Health, represented by the Director, pharmaceutical services, Ali Atabo, disclosed: “The committee’s inauguration was to implement the national guidelines on self-self-care for sexual, reproductive and maternal health in the state.”

According to the Director, self-care is supported by the Children Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), Swedish International Development Agency, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).
Declaring the self-care meeting open, the Minister of Health, represented by the Director, Family Health of FMoH, Dr. Stella Nwosu said: “We’ve have developed the demand-generation strategy for self-care interventions to create awareness,” assuring that it will change the social perception and behaviours on self-care interventions for healthcare delivery services.
She said that self-care is the ability of individuals, families, and communities to promote health, prevent disease and maintain good health.
The Director added that a “monitoring and evaluation framework” has already been developed to monitor the implementation of self-care intervention in the country.
While thanking the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other development health partners, she said: “We’ve collaborated to develop the national guidelines on self-care orientation and dissemination in 23 states, including Borno.”
She told the committee members that the national guidelines contain comprehensive and correct information on self-care health services to the people.
Besides, the Director added: “Self-care enables people to cope with illness and disability with or without the support of healthcare providers.”
She noted that during COVID-19 pandemic, the limitation of conventional health services was made more obvious with the disruption of health service delivery in some health facilities.
