FG Committee Inspects Dadin-Kowa Dam for Safety Evaluation
A federal technical sub-committee on dam safety has conducted a physical inspection of the Dadin-Kowa Dam in Gombe State’s Yamaltu/Deba Local Government Area, as part of a nationwide evaluation of water infrastructure.
Speaking to reporters on Wednesday in Dadin-Kowa, Malam Ali Ibrahim, Director of Dams and Reservoirs at the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, confirmed that the initial inspection indicated that the dam is structurally sound.
“The aim of this inspection is to ensure the safety of critical water infrastructure, especially following the recent flooding at the Alau Dam in Borno State,” Ibrahim said.
The committee began its inspections at Alau Dam in Maiduguri, moved to Mangu Dam in Plateau State, and then Dadin-Kowa Dam in Gombe. Their next stop will be the Kiri Dam in Adamawa State.
Ibrahim highlighted that while the preliminary checks at Dadin-Kowa were positive, further investigations are needed to assess any internal structural issues that may not be immediately visible.
“These evaluations are crucial to uncover hidden problems and ensure long-term safety,” he noted.
Once the inspections are completed, the committee will submit a detailed report with recommendations aimed at preventing disasters like the Alau Dam flooding. The findings will guide future actions to strengthen dam safety and protect nearby communities.
