Fintiri Establishes New Chiefdoms, Emirate in Adamawa
Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, has announced the creation of new emirates and chiefdoms to enhance traditional governance and foster peace in the state.
In a statewide broadcast on Monday, Governor Fintiri revealed the establishment of second-class chiefdoms for Hoba (headquartered in Hong), Madagali (Gulak), Michika (Michika), and Fofure (Fofure). A third-class chiefdom has also been created for Gombi, with its headquarters in Gombi. Additionally, Maiha Emirate (Maiha) and Yungur Chiefdom (Dumne) have been granted third-class status.
“We have reappraised the value of our traditional institutions and found them instrumental in peacebuilding and managing ungoverned spaces,” Governor Fintiri stated.
The decision follows the enactment of the Adamawa State Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) Law 2024. Under Section 5 of this law, the newly created chiefdoms and emirates are now officially gazetted.
Governor Fintiri emphasized the role of traditional institutions in fostering communal harmony, dispute resolution, intelligence gathering, and strengthening social cohesion. He assured citizens that the initiative would provide more dignity and pride for communities while supporting the state’s security framework.
“While we congratulate the new emirates and chiefdoms, we acknowledge other demands and agitations. This is a continuous process, and with justifications for additional demands, we shall respond positively to genuine agitations,” he said.
The creation of these new traditional structures reflects the government’s commitment to enhancing governance at the grassroots level and addressing the aspirations of diverse communities in Adamawa State.
