“We must not discountenance the role of Christianity and Islam in the formation and leadership recruitment.
“The Church and the Mosque must strive to uphold their traditional responsibility as hatcheries of good leaders.
“We should always see ourselves as brothers and sisters, and as good citizens desirous of our nation’s progress and prosperity,” he said.
He said that good society was being anchored on the trajectory of growth and development with a leadership that is reflective of the expectations of its citizens with justice and equity.
The summit, he said, would provide the citizens genuine basis for hope that better days lie ahead as leaders who committed to serve as servants to the people would emerge in the state.
While pledging continuing support to the association, Fintiri urged the participants to make good use of the knowledge learnt to preach unity, religious tolerance and fear of God in their communities.
“Peace is the bedrock of human progress,” the governor said.
Earlier, the Chairman of the association, Most Rev. Stephen Mamza described the summit as “apt and timely”, considering the current situation in the country.
He said the summit would enable the participants to be better informed on their responsibilities to the people, especially the underprivileged, adding that it would spur the Church to be more responsible and responsive.
The chairman lauded Fintiri’s administration for its support to the Christian community, and pledged support to government policies and programmes.
