Germany, Somalia Agree to Speed Up Deportation of Unauthorized Migrants
Germany and Somalia have agreed to expedite the deportation of Somali nationals residing unlawfully in Germany, following talks between German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Berlin. The agreement focuses on repatriating Somali citizens who lack legal residency, with an emphasis on individuals involved in serious criminal activities.
Chancellor Scholz emphasized that the arrangement aims to support Germany’s Somali community, the majority of whom are well-integrated and contributing members of society. “This agreement respects the interests of law-abiding Somali nationals and ensures that community contributions are acknowledged,” Scholz stated.
Germany is home to around 65,000 Somali nationals, with only a small segment lacking authorized residency. The initiative seeks to address this situation efficiently while protecting the rights of compliant community members.
