Gombe Governor Pledges Continued Support for NYSC, Promises Camp Upgrade
Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Gombe State, ensuring a conducive environment for corps members to thrive.
He made this pledge when the Gombe State Coordinator of NYSC, Mrs. Chinwe Nnenna Nwaehuku, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House over the weekend.
Acknowledging the condition of the temporary orientation camp in Amada, Governor Yahaya assured that efforts would be made to improve its facilities while awaiting the completion of the permanent orientation camp—one of his administration’s priority projects. He expressed optimism that the permanent site would soon be completed, enhancing the experience of corps members in the state.
“We want to make sure that our corps members are comfortable and supported during their service year,” he stated, emphasizing his government’s dedication to their welfare.
The Governor also disclosed plans to collaborate with NYSC on a skill acquisition programme aimed at empowering rural women and widows across communities in Gombe. He highlighted the importance of equipping these groups with skills that could open up economic opportunities and improve their livelihoods.
In response, Mrs. Nwaehuku appreciated the Governor’s unwavering support for NYSC and the welfare of corps members. She called for sustained collaboration between the state government and the scheme to ensure corps members effectively contribute to Gombe’s development. She also presented the NYSC newsletter and other publications to the Governor.
Governor Yahaya’s assurance comes as part of his administration’s broader commitment to youth empowerment and infrastructural development, reinforcing Gombe’s status as a corps-friendly state.
