Gombe Governor Reaffirms Commitment to Disability Inclusion on International Day
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to fostering an inclusive society that values diversity, equity, and the empowerment of all citizens, particularly individuals with disabilities.
In a goodwill message commemorating the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities, observed annually on December 3, Governor Inuwa Yahaya praised the resilience and determination of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the state. He described them as an inspiration to the broader community for their perseverance in overcoming challenges.
Reflecting on the year’s theme, “Amplifying the Leadership of Disabled People for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future,” the Governor highlighted ongoing efforts to establish a supportive environment where the aspirations of PWDs can thrive.
“To ensure the aspirations of PWDs are fully realized, we are taking significant steps, including the establishment of an agency dedicated to their welfare,” Governor Yahaya announced.
He further assured the public of his readiness to sign into law the recently passed bill for the establishment of an Agency for Persons with Disabilities. This agency, according to the Governor, will provide a structured framework for addressing the unique needs of the disability community, advocating for their rights, and creating opportunities for their empowerment and integration into societal development.
“By formalizing this agency, this administration aims to institutionalize long-term support mechanisms that will enhance the quality of life for persons with disabilities across Gombe State,” he added.
Governor Yahaya also commended the strength and determination of PWDs in Gombe, urging them to support his administration’s inclusive policies and programs aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for all.
The Governor’s statement underscores his administration’s dedication to building a more inclusive and sustainable society, aligning with global efforts to amplify the voices and leadership of individuals with disabilities.
