Gombe: Group drags Pantami to court over 2023 governorship race
Youths group from Gombe State under the auspices of Concerned Youth of Gombe State has instituted a legal action against Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Prof. Isa Pantami to compel him to contest the governorship seat in Gombe State come 2023.
The membership of the group was drawn from the 114 wards of the state.
Addressing newsmen in a press conference on Tuesday, Muhammad Abdullahi, the leader of the group said they were forced to take the legal action after exhausting all efforts at securing positive response from the minister.

He stated that in spite of the several attempts made to get response from the minister, his aides and associates, “we have not received any positive response in this regard.”
According to him, the group was concerned about the need to harness the potential of Gombe State to ensure continuous development through a leader that has the experience and capacity.
He added that the prosperity of the state coupled with the track record and achievements of Prof Pantami made it imperative for them to compel him to contest the 2023 general elections under any political party of his choice.
“We hereby take this bold action to call on a leader who we believe is the perfect candidate; this is Prof Isa Pantami.”
“Pantami in his capacity as Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) as well as Hon Minister of communications and Digital Economy of Federal Republic of Nigeria had done well.
“Prof Pantami has excellently discharged his duties of making positive and brought development within Gombe State in terms of Information and Communications Technology development.”
The group stressed that Prof Pantami is “young, learned, vibrant leader; who, in the past has shown the capacity to take our dear state to greater heights.”
According to Abdullahi, the group has decided to purchase the nomination ticket as well as 11 cars to facilitate support for Prof Pantami political awareness across the state.
According to a document obtained by our correspondent on Tuesday, the group comprising 114 members filed a case at the High Court of Justice, Gombe State.
The case with suit number GM/85/2022 is dated March 21, 2022.
