Gombe Guber: APC, PDP weaponised propaganda against our success – NNPP
The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), Gombe State chapter, on Monday attributed its poor outing at the just concluded general elections in the state to propaganda and sabotage from party members.
Mr Nasiru Baba-Sherrif, the secretary of the party in the state told journalists in Gombe shortly after a meeting of stakeholders to review their performance in the 2023 elections in Gombe State.
Baba-Sherrif said the party executives and critical stakeholders met to review their performance as well as fine-tune ways of ensuring the unity of the party going forward.

He said though the party was young in the state but had worked hard to almost become a household name in the state.
The secretary said at the end of the meeting, stakeholders commended the leadership style of its gubernatorial candidate, Khamisu Mailantarki whom they said sponsored the party and rebuilt its structure at the state level.
“It is on this basis that we sat today and having reviewed our performance and efforts, passed a vote of confidence in Mailantarki as the leader of the party.
“He (Mailantarki) worked hard for the party and that’s why we are standing by him and we affirm our strong support to his leadership.”
Baba-Sherrif said the party would soon inaugurate a disciplinary committee to advise it on disciplinary measures to be taken on those members that sabotaged the party’s interest at the just concluded elections in the state.
On his part, Rambi Ayala, a chieftain of the party and the minority leader in the Gombe State House of Assembly said both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state used propaganda as a tool against the NNPP.
Ayala said there were all manners of lies by the ruling APC and opposition PDP because they saw the NNPP though a young party grew within six months.
He said one of the lies that were peddled was a fake court order that Mailantarki had been barred from contesting the election which Ayala said was circulated less than 24 hours to the gubernatorial election.
He also said that there were all kinds of allegations that Gov. Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State had compensated Mailantarki with N2billion and other amounts, “ these were lies told to the public to favour their candidates.
“PDP was jittery, the government in power, the APC were also jittery. So they were bringing all kinds of propaganda and lies just to sell their products.
“Let me also say, this is one person(Mailantarki) that shouldered the responsibility of piloting a party NNPP which hitherto was non-existent.
“But within six months, Mailantarki made this party to become a party that became a night mare to APC and PDP.
“He was seen as a threat that was why they brought all kinds of lies. In fact, the PDP followers said Mailantarki is working for APC; the APC followers said Mailantarki is working for the PDP.
Which one will you take? He asked.
Ayala said the NNPP in the state was reviewing its performance to enable it correct the errors made during the last elections.
“We have started early under the leadership of Mailantarki to build and get stronger ahead of 2027 and I assure you we will bounce back better and greater in 2027.”
