Gombe Hosts 13th Housing Council on Affordable Development
The 13th National Council on Lands, Housing, and Urban Development is set to take place in Gombe, Gombe State, from Nov. 11 to Nov. 15, 2024. The annual event, organized by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, aims to address critical issues facing the housing sector in Nigeria.
In a statement released Tuesday in Kaduna, Badamasi Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations for the ministry, announced that the event will be held at the Gombe International Conference Centre on Airport Road. This year’s theme, “Housing the Future: Affordable Housing for Economic Growth, Climate Resilience and Urban Development,” emphasizes the sector’s role in economic and environmental sustainability.
The council meeting will be presided over by the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa-Dangiwa, supported by Minister of State for Housing, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Yusuf-Ata. Special Guest of Honour will be Gombe State Governor and Northern Governors’ Forum Chairman, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa-Yahaya.
Participants are expected to include state commissioners and permanent secretaries for housing, general managers of housing corporations, state surveyors-general, and other key stakeholders and professionals in the housing sector.
Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, highlighted the council as a critical platform for reviewing sector performance, discussing challenges, and proposing solutions. “This gathering provides government officials, experts, and regulatory agencies a unique opportunity to exchange ideas and recommend policies to drive the sector forward,” Ogunbiyi stated.
Last year, the 12th council meeting took place in Kaduna, with a focus on harnessing credit schemes for housing infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda. The recommendations from this year’s event are expected to shape policies and programs aimed at advancing affordable and resilient urban development in Nigeria.
