Gombe inaugurates committee to fast track Universal Health Coverage
Gombe State Ministry of Health on Thursday inaugurated a committee to fast track the achievement of Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that UHC is a situation whereby all citizens access quality essential health services without having to suffer financial hardship.
The Commissioner for Health, Dr Habu Dahiru, while inaugurating the committee in Gombe, said the terms of reference were to facilitate the implementation of unified health sector and annual operations plan and coordinate programmes in the health sector.
Dahiru, who is also the Chairman of the committee, said the committee was also to ensure synergy across key service delivery areas such as HIV, Tuberculosis, Malaria, among others.
He added that the committee was expected to improve the status of UHC in the state through the World Health Organisation (WHO) integrated service approach.
The committee members, which included health personnel working in various health outfits and development partners in the state, has Mr Felix Gambo, the Director, Planning Research and Statistics at the Gombe State Primary Health Care Development Agency as Secretary.
Gambo thanked the government for the opportunity given to them to serve in that capacity.
He reiterated members’ determination to carry out the assignment diligently. (NAN)
