Gov. Zulum Appeals for UNIMAID Tuition Fee Reversal
By Collins Mbakwe
Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum has appealed to the management of the University of Maiduguri to reverse the recent increase in tuition fee in the interest of the poor masses and victims of insurgency.
He made the appeal yesterday when the management of the university and that of Borno State University led by the deputy vice chancellor, Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele and Prof Umaru Kyari Sandade paid him a Sallah homage at the Government House in Maiduguri.
The governor noted that the hike in the fees had nailed many parents with some of them withdrawing their children from school. He said he had received over 500 calls from citizens pleading for his intervention over the hike.

“I am even much aware of the challenges facing the university, but if you receive N500, 000 from students those challenges cannot be tackled. I have received over 500 calls over the increment. Let me interface with you to tackle the challenges. I want the vice chancellor to have a listening ear to the people of Borno State,” Zulum said.
Zulum conveyed his appreciation to the universities for coming to felicitate with him during the Sallah, adding that the University of Maiduguri had remained a cardinal pillar in the development of education in the North-East region, the North and Nigeria at large.
Prof. Mohammed Laminu Mele said the two universities had come to pay Sallah homage on successful completion of the Ramadam fast and his successful trip to the hajj in Saudi Arabia.
He appreciated Governor Zulum for the support he has been giving the university community and receiving them.
