Governor Zulum Approves N77,000 Minimum Wage, Bringing Relief to Borno’s Civil Servants
By Tada Juthan, Maiduguri
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State has approved the implementation of the N77, 000 minimum wage for workers in the civil service.
According to him, the 156% wage increase is effective as of October 1, this year.
Confirming the workers’ wage increase over the weekend in Maiduguri, the State Secretaries of the Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC), Comrades Musa Chiroma and Baba Mohammed disclosed: “Our members in Borno State have commenced receiving their approved new minimum wage of N77,000 a month.”
Chiroma stated that the current minimum wage was approved by the governor, following the setting up of a high-powered committee to “discuss and review” the modalities to implement the minimum wage for workers.
“Our joint efforts of deliberations on wage increases have yielded results,” he said, stating that this will ensure workers benefit from the 156 percent minimum wage increase.
Modu Fannami, a cleaner at the Musa Usman secretariat complex, commenced the governor for approving the minimum wage for workers in the civil service.
“I received my salary increase this morning,” he said, while displaying the payment bank alert on Friday.
The workers’ salary increase followed President Bola Tinubu signing the new minimum wage bill into law last July.
With Borno’s implementation of the new minimum wage, it has brought relief to over 16, 000 workers amid the ongoing economic hardships in the country.
