GPF Praises Fintiri for Establishing New Chiefdoms, Emirate Structures in Adamawa
The Gongola People’s Forum (GPF) has lauded Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for creating new chiefdoms and emirates in Adamawa State, along with appointing new traditional leaders. The organization commended the governor for restoring the cultural rights of indigenous people, which were eroded during the colonial era under indirect rule.
At a press conference in Yola on Monday, Barrister Leonard Nzadon, the National Secretary of GPF, expressed the group’s full support for Fintiri’s initiatives, stating that the governor’s reforms were in line with GPF’s core principles. Nzadon emphasized that the new structures would empower the people of Gongola, breaking away from the feudal system they were subjected to under previous leadership.
“The creation of these chiefdoms and emirates represents a return to cultural freedom and autonomy for the people of Gongola. This is a necessary step for our liberation from the self-imposed feudal servitude that has lingered for too long,” Nzadon remarked.
He dismissed accusations that the governor’s actions targeted any particular group, calling them baseless and misleading. Nzadon highlighted that the reforms were for the benefit of all citizens, especially those historically marginalized by previous regimes.
The Adamawa State House of Assembly passed the “Adamawa State Chiefs (Appointment and Deposition) and matters incidental thereto” bill on December 10, which Governor Fintiri signed into law on December 16. The newly established chiefdoms and emirates include:
Hoba Chiefdom (Hong) – 2nd-Class Status
Madagali Chiefdom (Gulak) – 2nd-Class Status
Michika Chiefdom (Michika) – 2nd-Class Status
Fufore Emirate (Fufore) – 2nd-Class Status
Gombi Chiefdom (Gombi) – 3rd-Class Status
Maiha Emirate (Maiha) – 3rd-Class Status
Yungur Chiefdom (Dumne) – 3rd-Class Status.
