Yobe State Deputy Governor, Idi Gubana has tasked residents with the regular use of insecticide-treated nets (ITN) to fight malaria that claims many lives among children.
According to him, the State government and Roll Back Malaria partners will provide the treated nets free of charge to protect households’ lives against malaria.
Tasking the residents on the treated nets, yesterday (Wednesday), in Damaturu, Gubana, disclosed that; “Many lives could be saved from the regular use of treated nets against mosquito bites.”
Gubana, who is also the ITN campaign Ambassador in the state, noted that the people could be protected from malaria by handing to sleep every night inside the treated net.
He, therefore, urged the residents and other vulnerable households to register today (Thursday), before the nets are distributed free of charge,
“You should make yourselves available during the registration and distribution exercises,” he said,” stating that correct information be provided before collecting the treated nets.
He warned that the treated nets be aerated under a shade for 24 hours before they are hanged or tied for usage.
The Deputy Governor counselled that as everyone sleeps in the treated nets, one is being protected against contracting and spread of malaria.
According to him, residents should take responsibility and continue to protect themselves not only against malaria but Coronavirus (COVID-19) infections.
“Wash your hands regularly and wear your facemask when going out,” he said.
