Former Nigeria’s Chief of Army Staff and former Nigerian Ambassador to the Republic of Benin, Lieutenant General Tukur Yusufu Buratai, experienced a moment of profound honour and surprise as he was ambushed with humility and respect by the Emir of Yusufari, Dr Muhammad ibn Zannah Zakaria.
The occasion, initially intended to celebrate the coronation of Engr Hassan Mohammad as Dan Madamin Yusufari, in Yobe State, took an unforeseen turn when the revered General found himself at the center of an unexpected ceremony, emerging as the newly turbaned Garkuwan Yusufari.
Amidst the festive atmosphere and the presence of distinguished guests, General Buratai, an illustrious son of the nation, attended the event as an honored guest, unaware of the extraordinary recognition that awaited him. In a move that took many by surprise, the Emir of Yusufari, in a display of deep respect and admiration, bestowed upon the General the esteemed title of Garkuwan Yusufari, signifying the Shield of Yusufari, in acknowledgment of his exceptional service to Nigeria during his tenure in the Nigerian Army, particularly his efforts to restore security in the Northeast.
General Buratai’s career is a testament to his dedication and commitment to his country. As a retired military officer and diplomat, he has garnered numerous accolades and distinctions, reflecting his outstanding contributions to the nation. His decorated service record is a testament to his valour and leadership, and his legacy is marked by a multitude of prestigious awards and titles, attesting to his significant impact on the Nigerian military and diplomatic arenas.
